Create a LibraryThing Author's Page
How to Create an Author Profile on LibraryThing
1) Create your LibraryThing account
-
Go to LibraryThing and select Sign in / Join.
-
Click Join (or Create account) and enter your username, password, and email.
-
Sign in to complete account creation.
2) Complete your member profile
-
Open your Profile page.
-
Select Edit profile and add:
-
A concise professional bio
-
A profile image
-
Your website and/or public links (if available)
-
-
Review your privacy settings to ensure your profile displays the information you want public.
3) Ensure your author page exists on LibraryThing
LibraryThing generates author pages based on book records in its catalog. If your author page does not appear in search results, it may be because your book has not yet been added.
If your author page is missing:
-
Go to Add books.
-
Search by ISBN (preferred) or by title/author.
-
Add the correct edition to your library.
-
Search again for your author name. Then your author page should now be available.
4) Claim your author page (“Is this you?”)
-
Search for your LibraryThing author page.
-
On the author page, locate the “Is this you?” prompt (typically near the top/right area).
-
Select the option to claim the page / request author status.
-
If prompted, choose the correct title associated with your name to verify the match.
-
Submit your request and wait for confirmation.
5) Improve your author page presentation
After your author page is claimed, refine it so it looks professional and complete:
-
Add an author photo
-
Confirm your bibliography is accurate
-
Update Common Knowledge fields (bio details, series information, awards, etc., as applicable)
-
Add official links (website, newsletter, socials)
6) Troubleshooting
-
You can’t see “Is this you?”: Confirm you are signed in and you’re on the correct author page (names can be split across multiple entries).
-
Your author page still doesn’t appear: Add your book via Add books using the ISBN, then search again.
-
Verification issues: Use LibraryThing’s support contact listed on their Help pages for author verification assistance.
Now you are all set with your LibraryThing Author's profile!
Having an author presence on LibraryThing strengthens your discoverability in a community built around books. LibraryThing is widely used by dedicated readers, librarians, and collectors who actively search, catalog, and discuss titles so a complete, accurate author profile helps ensure your books appear correctly in searches, on work pages, and alongside related authors and genres. In short, it’s a practical way to make it easier for the right readers to find you.
LibraryThing is used by highly engaged readers, librarians, and collectors who actively search and catalog books, so showing up correctly there helps the right audience find you
Claiming and maintaining your author page helps prevent confusion with authors who share similar names and keeps your bibliography accurate across editions and formats.
Unlike social posts that disappear in the feed, an author page is a stable reference you can share in newsletters, press kits, and social media complete with your books, bio, and official links.
Your titles can continue getting visibility through members’ libraries, lists, recommendations, and metadata connections over time, which can quietly compound exposure well after launch week.
